💙Happy School Social Worker Week! 💙
This week, we celebrate the impact of school social workers, and we are especially grateful for Miss Shelters and Ms. Asel here at Westfield!
Every day, these two support our students with kindness, patience, and dedication—helping them navigate challenges, build confidence, and find success in and out of the classroom. Their compassion and commitment make a difference in so many lives, and we are beyond lucky to have them on our team!
Thank you, Miss Shelters and Ms. Asel, for all that you do for us at WACS! ❤️ 🐾

We are excited to share an update on Adan Austin's internship experience with our Transportation Supervisor, Jake Alonge, at the Bus Garage.
Since October, Adan has been gaining hands-on experience by assisting with mechanical work, including performing preventative maintenance inspections, working on brakes, handling tire-related tasks, and assisting with NYSDOT inspections. This practical experience is invaluable as it helps Adan build his skills in the field of transportation maintenance.
A special thanks to the CCAPT ( Chautauqua Cattaraugus Association of Pupil Transportation), Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant and Jake Alonge for providing Adan with the opportunity to tour the engine plant, where he learned about the engine manufacturing process. During the tour, Adan had the chance to see how engines are built and how some components are made. He also got a firsthand look at the technologies being developed for zero emissions buses as well as cleaner engines.
We are proud of Adan's hard work and dedication and look forward to seeing all the great things he will continue to learn during his internship.

This week, our 5th graders in the EnviroWolverines Club shared their passion for wildlife conservation by presenting their Endangered Species Coloring Books to younger students! 🦉🌱
Each book is a special collection of EnviroWolverine members' original drawings and facts about animals at risk of extinction. 🐅🐢 Through this project, our students hope to educate and inspire their younger peers—while making learning fun! 🎨📖 Each student received their own book to take home.
Incredible work, EnviroWolverines! 💚 Let’s keep spreading awareness and protecting our planet’s creatures! 🌍✨

Mrs. Lippert's 3rd graders have been practicing their reading fluency with plays. Today they performed "The Tale of the Too Talkative Turtle" and it was amazing! Students' expression as they read made it so much fun to watch!
Reading fluency is an important skill to develop in our young readers. Key components inlcude:
1. Accuracy – Reading words correctly without frequent errors. This involves strong decoding skills and recognition of sight words.
2. Rate – Reading at an appropriate speed, neither too fast nor too slow, to support comprehension.
3. Prosody – Using expression, intonation, and appropriate phrasing to convey meaning and emotion in reading.
4. Automaticity – Effortlessly recognizing words so that the reader can focus on comprehension rather than decoding.
This group of third graders would tell you that fluency helps them to understand what they are reading and makes reading more fun!
We hope you'll join us at our Family Literacy Event on March 5th to learn more about how you can help your child become strong reader and build a lifelong love of reading!
