4th graders were immersed in Native American culture this week starting with a special visit from Perry Ground, from the Turtle Clan of the Onondaga Nation, for storytelling and friendship wampum. The week also included their longhouse projects, succotash, and cornhusk dolls. This was a truly memorable social studies unit for our students with some long standing Westfield traditions. Thank you to our family members that assisted with our cornhusk dolls this afternoon!

Our students have been busy this week helping the Cemetery Association. Some of our students helped removed flags from graves prior to winter weather setting in! Officer Villafrank spent time in Mrs. Swank's classroom today talking about the role of a police officer as part of their Community Helpers unit. He reminded students that police officers are there to help keep everyone safe.

Westfield's very first Girls on the Run team ran their first official 5k in Delaware Park this morning! Congratulations to this group of young ladies for their hard work this fall. We are proud of you all! #girlsontherun

Westfield 9th graders Shelby Begier and Ella Chagnon performed at the 2023 NYSSMA Junior High Area All State festival this past weekend.  Shelby played the flute in the Concert Band and Ella played percussion in the Symphony Orchestra.  Both of these exceptional musicians earned their place among Western New York's top ensembles by preparing and performing solos at festival last Spring.  Congratulations music-makers, your WACS family is proud of you!

Good luck to Addie Luce, who is headed to sectionals for Varsity Girls swimming tonight. She and her Chautauqua Lake team mates, Sophia Gervasio, Cayzlee Johnson, Lydia Kushmaul, Gabbi Testa, were treated to a Wolverine clap out this afternoon before departing for SUNY Fredonia.
