This week, our 5th graders in the EnviroWolverines Club shared their passion for wildlife conservation by presenting their Endangered Species Coloring Books to younger students! 🦉🌱 Each book is a special collection of EnviroWolverine members' original drawings and facts about animals at risk of extinction. 🐅🐢 Through this project, our students hope to educate and inspire their younger peers—while making learning fun! 🎨📖 Each student received their own book to take home. Incredible work, EnviroWolverines! 💚 Let’s keep spreading awareness and protecting our planet’s creatures! 🌍✨

Mrs. Lippert's 3rd graders have been practicing their reading fluency with plays. Today they performed "The Tale of the Too Talkative Turtle" and it was amazing! Students' expression as they read made it so much fun to watch! Reading fluency is an important skill to develop in our young readers. Key components inlcude: 1. Accuracy – Reading words correctly without frequent errors. This involves strong decoding skills and recognition of sight words. 2. Rate – Reading at an appropriate speed, neither too fast nor too slow, to support comprehension. 3. Prosody – Using expression, intonation, and appropriate phrasing to convey meaning and emotion in reading. 4. Automaticity – Effortlessly recognizing words so that the reader can focus on comprehension rather than decoding. This group of third graders would tell you that fluency helps them to understand what they are reading and makes reading more fun! We hope you'll join us at our Family Literacy Event on March 5th to learn more about how you can help your child become strong reader and build a lifelong love of reading!

Hello Westfield Families and Community! It's been a busy and rewarding first two weeks as your Interim Superintendent. I've thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many of our amazing students. There's nothing quite like the unbridled enthusiasm of a child. Their energy is infectious, a pure and vibrant force that reminds us all to find joy in the simple things and approach the world with wonder. It's a privilege to witness that spark of curiosity and excitement – it's a reminder that the future is bright and full of possibility. We're also in budget season, which means we're hard at work developing a plan that balances our commitment to high-quality programs with our responsibility to be financially responsible stewards of your tax dollars. I am looking forward to meeting more of your children in the upcoming weeks. Have a safe and healthy February break. Yours in Education, Mrs. O'Boyle Interim Superintendent
