GLOW DAY 2021: Our 4th graders had a totally awesome day practicing their math skills under black lights. The fourth grade teachers saw the idea online and knew they had to create this fun day for students as a way to engage them in mixed skill math review. The various activities required students to use their mathematical minds to solve tasks involving math facts, angles, fractions, expanded form, geometric shapes, word problems and much more. What a blast!

Congratulations to our WACS Cheerleading Squad for placing 1st in their division at the Shout! Cheer and Dance Best of the Best Virtual Competition on Saturday, May 1st! Way to go, ladies! I couldn’t be prouder of how hard these athletes have worked over the last few weeks. In a typical season, we would have had several months to develop a routine and prepare for competition. This season we had a matter of weeks! This team is incredibly talented and dedicated and they proved that on Saturday. Congratulations again to all of you! ~ Cheer Advisor and Coach Melissa Zakrajsek

The Village of Westfield, along with the Westfield Tree Board, would like to showcase the first Tree Planting and to encourage residents to plant trees as well in their own yards. This is an outstanding opportunity for students to learn about the importance of trees to our community and to our environment overall. If you are interested in participating in this event, stop by Moore Park on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 4 pm.

Good afternoon, We would like to provide this follow-up to the last message regarding a COVID-19 positive employee at the elementary school. Our last documented in-school case was in mid-March. For your reference, we are once again sharing the New York State COVID-19 school report card. As tracked by our county and state, this school report provides up-to-date information regarding COVID-19 positive numbers. Be well Westfield, https://schoolcovidreportcard.health.ny.gov/#/searchResults

April 15, 2021 Dear WACS Families: We recently received a new guidance document from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) that addresses the possible move from 6’ of physical distancing to 3’ of physical distancing. We are working through the guidance and preparing for possible next steps. Given the infection rate in Chautauqua County at this time, this is currently only allowable at the elementary level. We are looking for feedback from our school community on your thoughts about a reduction to 3’ of physical distancing. Although the current infection rate in Chautauqua County does not allow for a reduction in physical distancing in our secondary school, we are seeking your thoughts about a reduction in physical distancing in both the elementary and secondary schools. This will enable us to have a clear picture of your thoughts for both schools in the event of a future infection rate decrease within our county, making it allowable at the secondary level. We will continue to practice all of the recommended safety procedures. They are as follows: • remain in place to include cleaning and disinfecting protocols • mandatory mask wearing • protocols to stay home through a daily health screening when symptomatic • 6’ of distance between adults and children • 6’ of distance during meals, music, PE and common areas • contact tracing for positive cases and quarantining as per county and state guidelines to contain possible transmission. When would elementary students move from 6’ to 3’ physical distancing? If our District moves in this direction to reduce physical distancing, the change would begin April 26, 2021. When would secondary students move to 3’social distancing? We will continue to monitor the infection rate in Chautauqua County. As per the NYSDOH guidance, the current infection rate in Chautauqua County does not permit the reduction in physical distancing from 6’ to 3’ at the secondary school. For your reference, the updated guidance can be viewed by using the link below: https://www.governor.ny.gov/sites/default/files/atoms/files/Pre-K_to_Grade_12_Schools_MasterGuidance.pdf We would appreciate your input regarding the reduction in physical distancing from 6’ to 3’. Please use the survey link below to access a brief survey pertaining to the updated guidance. https://forms.gle/EUAMGVUWvUSr6HQw8 As always, feel free to reach out with any questions. Thank you, Michael Cipolla Superintendent of Schools
