Last week we had some special guests at our Board of Education Meeting. Meet Larry, a miniature goldendoodle, that has grown to be a part of our family here at WACS as he assists with programs focussing on student social emotional wellness. Our school social worker, Miss Deann Shelters, has put extra time and care into getting her dog Larry his K9 Good Citizen certification. Our students really enjoy this new companion and are learning a variety of positive social skills while gaining trust, building confidence and learning to feel empowered. Sydney, one of our students that has a knack for working with Larry, was also a part of the presentation and is pictured here. Larry is currently working on expanding his trainings and certifications to take the Therapy Dog examination later this year.

December is upon us, which means that our music department will soon be hosting a series of concerts to showcase our students. All concerts begin promptly at 7:15pm in the auditorium. To maximize safety, we are limiting admission to two guests per musician. All guests are required to wear face coverings while in the building and to social distance. We are working out the details to live-stream these performances.

On Friday, November 19th, and Saturday, November 20th, Westfield's Varsity and JV Girls Basketball teams engaged in a community service effort to help the Westfield VFW Verteran's Dinner. Our young ladies assisted with set up, serving and breaking down. Well done, Wolverines!

Jamestown Business College’s Chrissy Conklin presented “You Can Have It All” to Ms. Alonge’s Career & Financial Management classes this week. Great discussions about staying on track, despite stress, as well as finding your GRIT to keep you going instead of giving up!

Seven Westfield Academy and Central School students received the honor of being chosen for the Area All-State Mixed chorus held at SUNY-Fredonia on November 20. The students were selected as part of a 68 member choir representing the finest high school musician/singers in the four western-most counties of New York State. Selected were: Julia Abbey (alternate), Emma Busuladzic, Aaron Fuller, Jocelyn Hotchkiss, Esther Knappenberger, Cameron Paternosh and Cassidy Phillips. Students studying branding in marketing in Ms. Alonge’s Entrepreneurship and Sports and Entertainment Management classes were given the challenge to “Tell me the brand without telling me the brand” on their Thanksgiving turkeys.

Our 4th grade students spent the day immersed in their Social Studies unit on the Native Americans. This included some 4th grade traditions like making corn husk dolls and cooking succotash. We will have longhouse projects to show you soon!
