Westfield Academy and Central School

Congratulations to Westfield junior, Lauren Bills, on receiving the Seal of Biliteracy in English and Spanish. This honor recognizes students that have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages through a series of written compositions, podcasts, videos and other cultural projects. The final evaluation of a candidate's language proficiency comes from a culminating panel presentation and includes a native speaker. We are very proud of Lauren's hard work towards this incredible honor. Lauren will receive her seal next year at graduation.

Attention juniors and seniors: @SUNYJCC is offering the new Summer EARN grant, which will allow you to enroll in a course this summer tuition-free. The grant is limited to the first 100 students who enroll. Student Mock Interviews were completed via Zoom this week in Ms. Alonge's Career and Financial Management classes. Thank you to Sorena Gilkinson (ERA Real Estate), Travis Heiser (Inner Lakes CU), Hillary Pattison (Absolut of Westfield), Bobbi Randall (NE Welch CU), Scott Cooper, (WACS Guidance), Amy Webb (Webb's Captain's Table) and Lauren Ryan (WACS CSE) for their time and support for our students as they practice this very important skill.

There will be a special meeting of the Westfield Academy and Central School Board of Education held today, March 26, 2021 at 3:30 pm in the Large Group Instruction Room at Westfield Academy and Central School 203 East Main Street, Westfield, NY 14787. It is anticipated that the Westfield Academy and Central School Board of Education will recess into Executive Session to discuss matters leading up to potential litigation.

Our 4th grade scientists have been learning all about plate tectonics, changes in the Earth over time, earthquakes, volcanoes and landforms with some really cool experiments!

March 19th - Middle & High School Just a reminder that tomorrow MS & HS students will not report. Please refer to the mailing from last week regarding Teacher Office Hours in the morning. Tomorrow will be an A-Day for MS & HS students to meet with their teachers. For our students attending Maple Avenue, PTech, Hewes, Chautauqua Lake and LoGuidice BOCES programs, the district will provide transportation to these programs tomorrow. We were notified that an elementary student has tested positive for COVID – 19. The student was last present on Friday, March 12th. All direct contacts have been notified. This does not impact our in-person learning model. Please continue to practice social distancing and wear face coverings. Be well WACS.

We were notified of a positive COVID – 19 case involving a student in our high school. The student was last present on 3/9/2021. All direct contacts have been notified. This does not impact our in-person learning model. Staffing levels remain consistent. We encourage everyone to continue practicing social distancing and wear face coverings even when outside of school. Have a wonderful weekend WACS.

March 16th will be a special night for our Varsity Boys' Basketball team and Coach North. Senior night will take place before the varsity game, and our recognition of Coach North and his years of service to WACS will be held after the conclusion of what will be his last game.
