Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Cluster Action Initiative and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) require schools that are in a designated yellow, orange, or red zone to test specific percentages of in-person students, teachers, and staff for COVID-19 in order to hold in-person classes. While neither Westfield nor Chautauqua County are currently considered a yellow, orange or red zone, we are taking action to prepare for these regulations should the need arise. Westfield is inviting you to an informational meeting about the guidelines and projected process for testing that would allow in-person learning to continue in the event that our area is designated a yellow zone. This will be presented via Zoom on Wednesday, December 16, at 6:30 pm. Please complete the information below. An invitation with zoom credentials will be sent to the email you share here, please verify it is entered correctly. A big Wolverine shout out to the Westfield Fire Department for their participation in our activities this week, including the surprise drive-by this morning!

Mrs. Helen Ihasz and her group one high school band members put on a special concert for the residents at Absolut Care earlier this week. What a treat! Current CDC guidelines require a 12ft distance for wind instruments or aerobic activity. As you might imagine, this makes choir, band and phys ed very difficult. Hats off to our teachers that are creatively making things work during this challenging time in music, phys ed and all content areas. You make us very proud!
Please help us spread the word: The annual Westfield Band Chicken BBQ that is on the school calendar for Saturday, October 10th will not be taking place at this time due to the current restrictions. Thank you for your continued support of our music programs, we hope to see you for a Chicken BBQ in the future.
Good afternoon Westfield Families: In an effort to reduce person-to-person contact, our District will no longer make daily adjustments to our bus schedule. Dear Westfield Parents and Guardians, Thank you for your feedback, questions and information shared throughout the past few weeks. Governor Andrew Cuomo, the NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the NYS Education Department (NYSED) released detailed health and safety guidance for reopening schools; specifically, mandating that students be six (6) feet apart and wear face coverings in classrooms. As a result of the Governor's guidance on social distancing, we are working on a model that permits the greatest number of students to attend school as safely as possible. As we enter into the final stages of planning for the 2020-2021 school year, we are requesting some additional information from you related to your plans to pursue the option of remote learning. Specifically, we have developed an online survey for you to complete in order to indicate your plans to opt-in to WACS remote learning for the upcoming school year. The link for the survey is below. Once completed, a representative from our school will be in contact with you in the coming days to begin coordinating your child’s educational details for 2020-20201. Please submit a separate survey for each child in your household by Friday, August 14, 2020. It is important for us to hear from every family interested in remote learning so we can best prepare for our in-person enrollment. We thank you for your continued support as we strive to balance maximizing student learning in a safe and healthy environment. As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions that may arise. Congratulations to Westfield's first two Seal of Biliteracy Graduates, Katie Bodenmiller and Eliora Brown. This prestigious program is formal recognition of students who have studied and attained a high level of proficiency in two or more languages (English plus a Foreign Language) by high school graduation. This program requires students to complete a portfolio of carefully designed tasks that allow them to demonstrate their proficiency, and culminates in a formal presentation of their research in both languages to a bilingual panel. Westfield is one of only a handful of schools across the region to offer this honors program to students and we are so proud of our recipients and their dedication to this honor. Congratulations to the senior recipients, Katie Bodenmiller and Eliora Brown, and to the junior recipients, Emma Heim and Elber Lopez Hernandez.

Good morning WACS! We would like to share this powerful resource with you that has been recently shared in communities. Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that New York school facilities will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year. The Governor will make a decision about summer school by the end of May. As we look to the future, we must think about what a return to school buildings might look like and how best to support students, families and staff. We know that we are stronger together. We need all voices to be heard on this important matter. Please participate in a statewide virtual conversation about reopening schools. You will be able to read and rate other participants' responses. Based on those ratings, the most important thoughts will rise to the top. All contributions are anonymous. This is a statewide exchange facilitated by the 37 New York BOCES (Boards of Cooperative Educational Services). The exchange results will be shared with our elected officials so that they will have a more global understanding of the thoughts and ideas our community members have about returning to in-person schooling. We encourage everyone to use the link below to share your thoughts and help evaluate the critical issues. If English is not your first language, there is a translation feature. Thought Exchange Link: https://my.thoughtexchange.com/333518046 Your BOCES is Erie 2 (Erie-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus) Thank you in advance for your participation.
The School Budget Vote and Board of Education election will be June 9th, but this year it will look very different. All votes will be via absentee ballot, which will be mailed to your homes. We will be sharing out information with you regularly, and we hope that you'll join us on the 26th for the live stream Budget Hearing.

While our students are not coming to and from school, you are probably still seeing our buses and bus drivers around. They have been busy with our food service crew delivering breakfast and lunch to students around our community Monday through Friday. If you happen to see them out and about, please give them a friendly wave as they are truly making a difference in our community during this unprecedented time. We sure are Westfield strong! 🚌💙
Tonight's guest Westfield Scholastic Reader thinks our students are the best around...🥁🥁🥁 ...Mrs. Anderson is here tonight to read you "Clifford Goes to Hollywood" with some help from her favorite Westfield student. https://ensemble.e2ccb.org/Watch/Rf48CqPt
